From the tiny window of his kitchen at Sri Sri Radha-Damodara Mandir in Vrindavan, Srila Prabhupada prayed to the lotus feet of Srila Rupa Goswami; a prayer that would take him across oceans, over continents, into dozens of foreign countries, where he would open hundreds of temples, farms and preaching centers; where he would rescue suffering humanity from the grip of Maya, and where he would fulfill the prophesy of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu to take the chanting of Hare Krishna to every town and village on the planet. Some would say these simple, humble beginnings - the essence of the Hare Krishna movement worldwide - have been lost in the international society that ISKCON has now become. Yet in the words of Vrindavane Bhajane, Srila Prabhupada clearly spells out his intention: not to maintain a rustic image of a lone Indian sage from an ancient village - an image that might appeal to many on a superficial platform - but more; much more. His goal was always to fulfill the desires of his spiritual master and deliver the conditioned souls in the western world, who Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura said needed saving more than anyone.
