Srila Prabhup?da did not think to build a temple in Jagannatha Puri. He wanted to construct one at the entrance, in Bhuvane?vara Dhama. This is significant. Mah?prabhu entered ?r?-k?etra through this same gate. He visited the Lingar?ja Temple of Lord Siva. He and the devotees did kirtana and danced there. They bathed in Bindu-sarovara, the place where Sivaji called all the celestial rivers to gather. Mah?prabhu taught how Lord Siva is a great devotee. ?iva is k?etra-pala, the guardian of the dhama. Before entering, you must see him and ask his permission. Otherwise, you cannot enter. So one should beg his permission. And ?ivaji will welcome the devotee with folded hands, saying, �Please come and see Jagannatha.�
