ÅšrÄ«la Bhaktivinoda ṬhÄkura’s Datta Kaustubham was written in 1873 at JagannÄtha PurÄ« and contains 104 Sanskrit verses with an auto-commentary. This is one of the ṬhÄkura’s earliest works in Sanskrit and presents a systematic analysis of sambandha, abhidheya and prayojana. The title ‘Datta Kaustubham’ refers to Kṛṣṇa’s kaustubha-gem of sat-siddhÄnta (transcendental philosophy) that has been given to Kedaranatha Datta (Bhaktivinoda ṬhÄkura). Although his commentary is in Sanskrit, Bhaktivinoda has provided an expanded Bengali translation which we have referred to herein. This translation of Datta Kaustubha is based upon the Gauá¸Ä«ya Mission edition printed in 1942
